That’s all FirkinFolks!

After ten long years the FirkinFest committee have decided to throw in the bar towel and quit whilst the beer still has its head.

FirkinFest X, as it turns out, therefore concludes the unbroken series of annual Grayshott beer festivals in the village hall which started out with beer & beatles in 2009 and quickly established itself with the popular combination of great real ales and dodgy entertainment.

Like Party in Grayshott that went before, FirkinFest proved to be extremely successful and popular in the short run yet ultimately FirkinFest too ran out of froth only to be consigned to the drip tray of history – with no more than a sideboard full of FirkinGlasses and a small roundabout on the A333 to remember it by.

Chairman FirkinPete, surprised to find out he was Chairman at the final meeting, mumbled “Our motto ‘Veni Vidi Parti‘ has stood us in good stead over the years, even as the FirkinEmpire threatened to crumble around us.  The final straw though was the uncertainty over Brexit and we were determined that FirkinFest should not miss out on being part of project Fear, so we pulled the plug just in time”

FirkinEXIT, as it may now be remembered, drew on the popularity of social club jazz regulars Binky’s Dixie Demons being unplugged once again and local talent I Witness to pull in more punters, ensuring that the final FirkinFest ended on a high note.

A final big thanks to all the committee and helpers that made FirkinFest happen. In particular the founding FirkinFour;  FirkinDavid who did all the spreadsheets, FirkinTony who used his experience to select, prepare and empty the firkins & FirkinGraham who like the Chairman was only really in it for the beer.

Cheers!

Firkin X marks the spot!

Last year’s quality control department ensuring that it was safe to go in the water

As there are only two evening sessions available to try all 23 many FirkinFolk sensibly spread the task out over both.  If you have to choose just one session to go to, you have the option of a relatively quiet FirkinFriday early beers with acoustic jazz – so you can hear yourself drink – or our FirkinParty with talented local band I Witness playing popular covers to get you dancing à la Theresa.

FirkinTickets are £5 and £10 respectively if bought in advance online or from Light lines or Grayshott Social Club.  They will also be available to buy on the door but will cost you an extra £2.50 – that is if there are any left – bearing in mind we sold out last year and had to turn away a disappointed few who had left it too FirkinLate.

You are equipped with a commemorative pint or half FirkinGlass and FirkinGuide when you arrive and remember to get your FirkinTokens in the small hall before heading impatiently for the bar in the main hall.  Half pint tokens are £1.75 or you can buy three pints worth for a tenner.  Bargain! No refunds!

There is also a tricolour of FirkinWine and various soft drinks available at the FirkinFayre along with a small range of absorbent snacks to keep you going before visiting the FirkinNosh+ burrito street wagon for some serious grub.

Here at FirkinFest we embrace the latest technology and FirkinJohn has once again made his FirkinApp available in advance to help you choose your drinks to sample and record your findings.

Ten out of Ten for FirkinFest

FirkinFest, the ever popular Grayshott Beer Festival, returns for its tenth year at Grayshott Village Hall on Fri 19th & Sat 20th October 2018.

FirkinFest X will feature another 16 exceptional real FirkinAles carefully selected from around Britain and 6 FirkinCiders plus wine, soft drinks and hot food from nosh+.  We never repeat a beer.

FirkinFriday night entertainment comes in the guise of Binky’s Dixie Demons playing their acoustic Jazz set, specifically requested so you can still hear yourself drink.  Grayshott Jazz Club regulars will appreciate the finer qualities of Binky’s unplugged.

This year we have chosen a young local upcoming band to entertain us on Saturday evening. IWitness will really be getting the FirkinParty started with their covers set once the first few beers have been tasted, but you’ll need to be there to see it.

Please visit our website www.firkinfest.com for more information and to book your FirkinTickets which include entry to the festival, 2018 commemorative FirkinGlass, and helpful FirkinGuide and tasting notes.

Do come along and enjoy this years FirkinFest – we feel sure you will give it full marks!

Welcome to the new FirkinWebsite

FirkinFest has recently launched a new website in preparation for the tenth Grayshott Beer Festival being held at Grayshott Village Hall on Friday 19th & Saturday 20th October 2018.

www.firkinfest.com has all the latest information about FirkinX and there is also a look back over all of the previous nine years, FirkinFest I to IX, with photos and all the beer and cider lists.

In addition there is a new FirkinList, which FirkinFans can subscribe to on the new website, to receive email notifications of the very latest FirkinNews as it is posted.

Festival goers who bought tickets online in the past, or voted for a favourite beer, and gave us their email address, have already been added to the FirkinList on the basis that they are probably still interested and if not there is an unsubscribe link in the emails they receive.

Please take a look around our new website and if you haven’t already received an email subscribe to our FirkinList so you don’t miss another FirkinThing.

FirkinFest is also on Facebook, Twitter, Nextdoor, Flickr even grayshott.com
